From wedding invite to ring delivery: your dog’s moment to shine

We got married on June 8th, 2022, exactly ten years after our story began. And of course, James was there, suited up as our dude of honor, rocking a matching outfit and handling the most important task of the day: bringing the rings.

He was drawn on our wedding invite, joined me for the final dress fitting (yes, he approved), had a front-row seat during the ceremony and totally owned the camera during the photoshoot. No doubt about it: he was part of the wedding crew, 100%.

A wedding in nature, with a touch of Italy

We got married in Twente, in the east of the Netherlands. Surrounded by nature, but with total Italian summer vibes. Think: long tables under the sky, amazing food, good wine and our favorite people all around us. Naturally, James was there too, with his own personal dog-sitter. That way we could fully enjoy the day, and he got the calm and attention he deserved. When the party really kicked off, he made a stylish exit and went to chill with his doodle BFF, Guus. Win-win.

10 tips to include your dog in your wedding

Thinking of including your dog in your wedding? Absolutely do it. With a little prep and the right mindset, it’ll be one of the best decisions of your big day.

1. Let your dog bring the rings

Attach a small pouch to their collar or harness. Cue the goosebumps and a few happy tears.

2. Put your dog on the invite

A cute photo, a custom illustration or even a little note “from the dog”… It’s those personal touches that make your invite unforgettable!

3. Plan a first look with your dog

A quiet moment before the chaos kicks in. Sweet, grounding and perfect for the camera.

4. Book an on-site dog-sitter

A total must. Someone your dog knows and trusts. That way, you don’t have to stress about walks, water bowls or unexpected chaos. Calm humans, calm dog.

5. Choose a dog-friendly venue

Not all venues welcome dogs. Ask early, be clear about your plans and make sure your dog is actually part of the deal. Not a last-minute surprise.

6. Reserve a spot for your dog

James had a seat in the front row. Calm, proud and fully in his element. Like he was getting married himself.

7. Match the outfit

Keep it stylish and subtle, a bowtie, custom collar or floral touch. James wore a bespoke set from Pip & Palms, complete with a ring pouch.

8. Hire a photographer who’s good with dogs

9. Give your dog a shout-out in the details

A dog treat with the wedding date, a mini dog-cake at dessert or a paw print on the welcome sign — it’s the little things.

Think water, shade, a quiet spot to chill and a solid exit plan if things get too much. A happy dog means a stress-free day — for everyone, right?

Yes, James came on the honeymoon too

Our wedding wasn’t just a love party, it was also our farewell to regular life. We sold our house, quit our jobs and hit the road with James in a camper van. One year across Europe, no plans, no stress. Just freedom. Fluffin’ honeymoon mode: on.
